Coastal Region, South AfricaThe Spotted Hound blends 24% bush vine grenache, and 65% mouvédre, both from Agter-Paarl; plus 11% pinot noir from Elgin. After fermentation separately and 8 months in oak barrels, they were blended and bottled. Soft, plump, roasted fruit and roasted coffee jumps to the fore, framed with sticky, pasty tannins that fall off to a bitter and warming finish. South Africa can do so much better than this, easily.
