Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaMike Nierychlo believes Gew has much potential in Cowichan Valley, but not in the stereotypical fleshy / flashy style. From Younger (12 year old) estate vines were whole cluster pressed into neutral French oak, while their older (22 year old) vines were foot crushed with 20 hours of skin contact before joining the other juice in barrel. After a native ferment, this remained 4 months on lees before bottling, unfined and with coarse filtration. Very slight and streamlined, with subtle honeysuckle, pear, lime blossom skirting along the lean palate, touched with salinity, and finishing with kisses of lime and anise.
