Covert Farms Chardonnay Grand Reserve 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis clone 76 chardonnay came off the estate winery's organically farmed A15 block, planted in 2007 on sedimentary soils at 420m. This was barrel fermented over 45 days, and aged 9 months in 1st and 2nd fill French oak, with partial MLF and regular bâtonnage. Ripe and round, with ample toasted spice framing ripe white peach, lemon curd, lightly smoked stones, all cut with a zesty lemon pith and peel. Lovely freshness and youth here to counter the power of the wood. Drinking smartly now (think crab and/or risotto), or revisit in a year after this settles into itself a bit. Don't wait too long however; the youthful acidity is a lure. 75 cases.Tasted: 18 May 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
