Clisson Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie 2018

Muscadet, Pays Nantais, Loire, FranceThe Lieubeau family's story began on May 10, 1816, when Joseph Grégoire Lieubeau was found as a child on Hôtel Dieu's porch at the Nantes hospital. The name "lieu-beau" ("beautiful place") was likely a reflection of the hospital's excellent reputation and hospitality. A winegrowing family raised Joseph, and he began his winery as a young man. From the cru of Clisson, south of Nantes, this is a plot selection of 50-year-old vines rooted in granite. After a whole bunch of pressing and native ferment, this aged 24 months on lees in underground vats. Very complete, with layers of almond blossom, lemon, ripe melon, savoury lees, and flax running long on the cushioned palate, propped up with a latticework of bright, marine swept acidity, and lingering with a granitic hum. Drinking beautifully now and with time ahead (Diam10 closure).Tasted: 02 May 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
