Telmo Rodriguez Gaba Do Xil Tinto 2019

Valdeorras, Galicia, SpainAfter two trying growing seasons, 2019 produced an average size crop, albeit slightly reduced by hail damage. The origin of viticulture in Valdeorras is as old as the Romans and probably older. Phylloxera wiped out some of the original vineyards. The empty plots, abandoned for over a century, attracted Telmo Rodriguez and friends to revive some of the best sites for mencía. Expect a mineral-saturated mix of scrubby dried herbs and bright red, smoky, peppery fruit with a heavenly texture. Gabo do Xil is stainless steel fermented with indigenous yeasts and left alone for 12 months before bottling. Wild, aromatic and unique, it is hard not to finish this bottle in an instant. Drink or hold through 2027.Tasted: 07 April 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
