Montes Wings Carmenère 2020

Valle del Colchagua, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileAlmost two years down the road, Montes Wings, the latest carmenère project from the Montes family, is blossoming with time in the bottle. It is a blend of 85% carmenère and 15% cabernet franc. The fruit comes off the estate Apalta home vineyard in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. Aurelio Montes Jr. works with fruit from the top of the hill, instead of the usual lower vineyard blocks, resulting in more approachable wine than the flagship Purple Angel Carmenère. The intensity has increased with time, highlighting the olive and fennel, but it's the rich blackberry, blueberry that is singing as it takes on the French oak dusted in chocolate. 80% of the wine is aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels, with 20% in second and third use barrels. This has a bright future but it’s drinkable now.Tasted: 06 February 2025Tasted by: Prices:
