McWatters Collection Harry's Apera 2011
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHarry’s Apera is a tribute to BC wine legend Harry McWatters, who was always curious about wine and never missed a chance to taste or make something different. This sherry-like fortified chardonnay was aged in neutral French oak barrels. The exact 2011 still wine was distilled and used to fortify Apera. The nose is surprisingly fruity for its age, a testament to Okanagan acidity and fruit. It is pitching a mix of dried orange and yellow fruits, and candied lime, with a blend of salty almonds and caramel in the back end. At this point, it has stabilized in the bottle and has become something of an afternoon sipper on a cold winter day.
