Doña Paula Selección de Bodega Malbec Alluvia Vineyard 2018

Gualtallary, Tupungato, Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaAs the Selección name and hefty bottle attest, this is a premium wine and the flagship estate malbec of Doña Paula. The fruit comes off the special Alluvia Vineyard in Gualtallary, at 1350m, with bush vines growing out of a rocky ancient stream bed laced with limestone deposits. This was native fermented and rested 20 months in French barrels (50% new). Crushed stones and crushed purple florals are woven throughout this full yet fresh wine, scenting wild black plum, wild blackberry, blackcurrant, and thorns. Tannins are structurally firm and fine, with an alluring stony grip which lingers long on the bitter cherry finish. Certainly a wine of place, and a beautiful place at that. Now if only they'd lose the overweight bottle... In youth still, this can cellar a decade easily.Tasted: 11 April 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
