Domaine Barmès-Buecher Pinot Gris Rosenberg 2021
Alsace, FranceGeneviève Buecher and François Barmès established their estate in 1985 by joining the vines of each respective family who had held land there since the 17th century, near the village of Wettolsheim. Today Domaine Barmès-Buecher spreads over 17 biodynamically farmed hectares, scattered over 7 terroirs including 3 Grands Crus: Hengst, Pfersisberg and Steingrubler. This comes off the clay-limestone and sandstone soils of Rosenberg, and vines 29 years old. After a native ferment in stainless, this rested 18 months on full lees in tuns, demi-muids, and older barrels. Brown butter and white honeycomb lead this medium+ white, morphing into baked pear, toasted almond, crushed stones on the savoury, expansive palate. There's a prominent buzzy underlay that drives this waxen wine through a lengthy finish. Very smart, drinking now and in future.Tasted: 10 March 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices: Producer: Domaine Barmès-BuecherGrape: Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio
