Champagne Frédéric Savart l'Ouverture 1er Cru Brut NV

Montagne de Reims, Champagne, FranceSituated 10 km west of Reims, Frédéric Savart is based in the village of Écueil, in the Val de Reims. Continuing from his father's work with their 'laboratory of terroirs,' Savart has made the 4-hectare property his own and has become one of the superstars of the Grower Champagne movement. L'Ouverture is the introduction to Freddy's range, with three vintages of Pinot Noir from Écueil's sandy soils, native fermented and aged in a mix of stainless and barrel before heading to bottle. My bottle was disgorged in October 2023, with 3.5 g/L. Red fruited throughout, with wild cherry, Rainier cherry, burnished lemon, fragrant raspberry, and crunchy red apple strung across lightly toasted meringue. Acidity is tart and crunchy with this recent DG and will nimbly integrate into the wine over time. Tense and long through the finish, this is a stunner, as usual.Tasted: 01 March 2024Tasted by: Prices:
