Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay McLean Creek Road Vineyard 2021
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMcLean Creek Road Vineyard, in Okanagan Falls, is the home base vineyard, a steep, sand, gravel and loam site planted nineteen years ago. The winemaking is primarily hands-off at Meyer. In this case, the fruit gets a cool partial native ferment in stainless steel before finishing up in 22% new French oak barrels for 11 months. It is sitting on its lees throughout but without any physical stirring. The nose has pleasant spice and toasted overtone with plenty of green apple and wet stone. Cool, calm, and sophisticated, this is chardonnay for grown-ups. Treve nailed the cracked nutmeg in the finish. Just a baby, this will be fun to track through 2030.Tasted: 02 February 2023Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay McLean Creek Road Vineyard 2021
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their estate McLean Creek Road Vineyard, in OK Falls, this Chardonnay comes off a steep sandy and gravelled loam site, planted in 1994, between 320-380m. After a long, cool partial native ferment in stainless, this transferred to French oak (22% new) for MLF and 11 months on lees, sans bâtonnage. This was unfined at bottling. Toasty spices pervade this bright chardy, cloaking green apple, pear, river stones, white blossoms, and a finish of bacon fat and cracked nutmeg. Very much in youth, this needs some time to resolve.Tasted: 15 January 2023Tasted by: Prices:
