Maude Wines Mohawk Hill Pinot Noir 2017

Central Otago, South Island, New ZealandAfter working as winemakers in Oz, Sarah-Kate (SK) and Dan Dineen returned to her parents' Central Otago vineyard and took over the 4ha of steep, north facing, terraced slope. Mohawk Hill was the name given to their Lowburn vineyard in Cromwell, after the hills in the distance. This 667 pinot, planted in 2008 at 220m, was 36% whole cluster, had 3 weeks maceration, and 11 months in barrel. Lusty and burnished from time in bottle, this still has quite bright acidity, lifting the black plum, medicinal edged cherry, dark earth, forest floor bedding this wine. Tannins are softened by age, giving a gentle hug to the generous palate at this point, and leading it to a herbal / mustard seed finish. Drinking now, ideally with roast pork or lamb chops.Tasted: 11 November 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
