Rioja, SpainAnciano Rioja Crianza No.5 is a big step up from No. 3, and sits at a very affordable $16. The grapes are hand-harvested from mid-September off 100ha of vineyards, including a selection of bush-trained vines, with an average age of 20 years. Post-fermentation, it spends a year in American oak barrels for 12 months, followed by a year in bottles. Expect more intensity than No. 3, with more decadent flavours of red and blue fruit dusted in milk chocolate and dried herbs. Easy sipping, it has a lovely silky texture allowing the wine to slip down easily.
