Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2015
Coonawarra - Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThe Caley was born from the fine 2015 vintage, a blend of Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and Barossa shiraz. Planted in 1992, the Ming D block's two clones in the Yalumba Coonawarra vineyard brings the 74 percent cabernet sauvignon. The 26 percent shiraz component comes off two Barossa blocks: the Burgemeister Linke block planted in 1901 at Light Pass; and the Horseshoe Vineyard on the southern side of the Yalumba winery in Eden Valley, produced by Helen Hill-Smith in 1971. The Coonawarra cabernet is the unmistakable alpha grape in the blend, bringing cool, leafy, green olive and all the structure. The counterpoint is the Barossa shiraz that fleshes out the mid-palate, filling the holes with luscious black and blue fruits and chocolate. Long and persistent, it is a wine for the decanter and contemplation. It is matured for 21 months in 46% new French barriques, balanced in two year and older French barriques. You can drink it now, but 2025 seems a more realistic starting point.Tasted: 14 October 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $529.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Pacific Wines & Spirits |
