O'Rourke Family Estate Clone 96 Chardonnay 2020
Lake Country, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt is early days, and only 17 barrels were made of the Clone 96, but it is an impressive start for the Carr’s Landing winery. While it is a single clone chardonnay, it comes from two different vineyard sites in Lake Country, 35 minutes north of Kelowna on the west side of Lake Okanagan. The lean leesy nose reflects the thoughtful barrel program: 23 percent new French oak, 17 percent one year old barrels, with remaining neutral French oak barrels for fermentation and aging. At 50 degrees north, the early ripening clone 96 shines with low yields and subtle levels of peach, pear, and pineapple with a green melon mineral underside. This wine is just a baby and will grow in the bottle through 2028.
