Alsace, FranceAlsace escaped the hail and frost in 2016, and the crop is generous. It was the first vintage in over a decade where no botrytis-affected wines were made at Hugel. A late vintage and very healthy grapes resulted in a classic vintage for dry wines only. The Hugel Riesling also underwent a reset in 2016 thanks to a new parcellaire selection of carefully chosen plots from the Famille Hugel estate in Riquewihr. Most of the plots for this new wine are being converted to organic viticulture, something new for the soils of Riquewihr, which in and around the Schoenenbourg are known for the minerality they can bring to a wine. The style is dry and aromatic, but it's more elegant than in previous years. Look for plenty of lime, lemongrass, and white peach flavours—a benchmark for sure. There is no better way to celebrate Hugel Day and 384 years of winemaking.Tasted: 03 November 2023Tasted by: Prices:
