Caruso and Minini Terre di Giumara Frappato Nerello Mascalese 2020
Sicily, ItalyThis wine was a delightful surprise, starting with its blend of indigenous grapes, mixing the slightly hefty Nerello Mascalese with the gentler Frappato. The nose is an exquisite display of wild berries and spicy floral perfumes. The black cherry is explosive and electric on a perfectly balanced palate. A lightness and lift through the finish make for a perfect ending. In away reminiscent of gamay, pinot noir, and mature Barolo all in one. A fabulous food wine too. The winemaking is basic: fermented in stainless steel tanks, it also goes through malolactic in tanks. Thirty percent is aged in barriques, with 70 percent going to stainless steel tanks.
