Pegaso Barrancas de Pizarra 2017

Castilla-Leon, SpainI’m thrilled to see this wine again after so many years. The Pizarra vineyards sit on metamorphic, brown slate soils, unique to the village of Cebreros, a small region 90 minutes from Madrid within the Sierra de Gredos, from 950 to 1,200 meters above sea level. Team Rodriguez first discovered the slopes of Arrebatacapas while following the transhumance routes of the Cañada Real. It was love at first sight, with the stunning landscape and the old garnacha vines growing wild with only nature’s help. That was in 1999. Since then, the team has recovered the slope of Arrebatacapas, described as “the most crucial slate landscape in all of Gredos.” Old traditional garnacha bush vines are manually harvested and spontaneously fermented in foudre, followed by an extended élevage of 24 to 30 months in 400 and 500 litre French oak barrels. This is wine for the curious and those contemplating each glass they consume. Dry, firm, and fruity, the flavours persist from front to back with perfect weight and length to match.Tasted: 20 September 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
