Crowsnest Family Reserve Merlot 2016
Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaNow in the second generation's hands, Sacha and Ann Heinecke are shifting the compass on this Similkameen stalwart, 22 years in. These 32 year old vines spent 18 months in French oak. Dusky old wood scents this full bodied merlot, with dried cassis, black cherry, light smoke on a dense and compact palate. Tannins are worn some but still very present, somewhat overriding the browning fruit on the palate, and noticeable on the warming finish.
