Maçanita Letra F As Olgas Tinto 2018

Cima Corga, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalLetra F is a play on words for the categorization system for port grapes in the Douro, finishing at letter F. Most of the F ranked vineyards are neglected, since the prices they would receive for the grapes were much lower than the prized ABCs. Thus, they're now a treasure trove of old vines, often at altitude, and mixed field blends of white and red grapes. The Maçanita siblings have been searching out these old vineyards and revitalizing them for super interesting wines like this. This field blend comes from a single vineyard (an As Olgas, in old Portuguese) of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Donzelinho Tinto, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Carvalha, and Bastardo, off vines 85-100 years old, in Carião, Cima Corgo. It rested in neutral barrels for 18 months. Fragrant rockrose imbues wild plum, cherry, boysenberry, schist, wrapped with fine, long tannins, and lofted with easy, effortless stony acidity through a lingering finish. This finessed, serious wine is a real charmer. 1188 bottles produced.Tasted: 30 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
