Backyard Vineyards Reserve Viognier 2019

British Columbia, CanadaBackyard ferments its viognier in 100 percent neutral French oak barrels and aged on the lees for nine months before blending and bottling. There is no real oak influence, but there is a strong reductive, mealy, leesy note that cuts into the fruit. It has all the parts peach and tropical fruit aromas and flavours streaked with mandarin and citrus. The texture is rich and, yes, a touch oily in a complex manner. It is almost exotic, and in the future, I would tone down the lees and let the fruit soar throughout the wine. A reasonable effort that needs a little tweaking moving forward. Serve this with a creamy risotto loaded with Parmigiano Reggiano or poached salmon.Tasted: 11 August 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
