Unsworth Vineyards Cuvée De L'ile Méthode Traditionelle 2017

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaUnsworth says Cuvée de l'île is the pinnacle of their sparkling wine program. This 2017 is a 50/50 blend of pinot gris and pinot noir sourced from three island sites: Saison Vineyard, Sunnydale Vineyard, and Zanatta Vineyard. Winemaking is traditional, beginning with the best free run juice, of which a small amount is barrel-fermented in a neutral French barrel, while the majority is tank fermented. All the juice spends 18 months in bottle before hand riddling and disgorgement. After that, a minimal dosage is applied at disgorgement before it rests another year in the bottle. As charming as the Charme de l'île bubble is, this wine checks in at a much higher level, led by complexity and flavour. Look for an inviting toasted hazelnut with brioche notes that support a citrus-soaked green apple palate with creamy textures wrapping up the finish. It is bone dry and worth purchasing and cellaring if you can for three to five more years. Another benchmark for serious BC sparkling wine. If you drink it now, the match is oysters on the half shell.Tasted: 08 July 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
