The Hermit by Ingo Grady 2020
Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2020 marks the third release of The Hermit by Ingo Grady. It is a wine that emulates an old French manœuvrer that saw Bordeaux reds stiffened or “hermitaged” by the addition of syrah from the warmer regions to the south, if not North Africa. Choosing from the vast selection of grapes from winegrower Suki Daliwhal, and aided by the Kismet Estate winery team, Grady has issued a 32/31/25/11 mix of cabernet sauvignon, syrah, malbec, and petit verdot. The evolution has seen the cabernet sauvignon drop 50 percent over three years, and in the excellent 2020 vintage, you can see why given the richness of flavours from the other components. It was made to be drunk young, and its mantra is to be delicious, which never hurts. The Hermit is a soft, savoury, spicy raspberry and blueberry red dusted in Okanagan garrigue that slides down with little effort. As young as it appears in the glass, it should age five to seven years with no problems.
