Rigour and Whimsy Into the Darkest Wood 2020

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRigour & Whimsy are a tiny garagiste, family-owned winery based in Okanagan Falls (bottled at Echo Bay Vineyard), sourcing special vineyards across the Okanagan for their creative and adventuresome (and artfully labelled) portfolio, one that changes annually. From a certified organic vineyard in Osoyoos, this was whole cluster and semi-carbo, with partial foot trodding and four weeks' fermentation. It was then pressed off into 2 puncheons and 1 barrique for a 16 month rest. Downy and brooding violets, with sultry plum, balsam, sapid twig, and dark earth along a slender 12.5% palate. Acidity is crunchy, edges are herbal, and tannins are furry, finishing with a cracked white peppercorn note. Fantastic diversity in their syrah portfolio (this is 1 of 3 cuvées I know of), this natty syrah will have many fans. Take with a slight chill.Tasted: 13 July 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
