Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir 2019

Russian River, Sonoma County, California, United StatesSeveral estates, nine clones, various exposures, and a mix of soil types go into Hobbs Russian River Pinot. Extravagant by Old World pinot standards, this wine has come a long way in the last decade. It is all hand-harvested at night, by shears only, and hand sorted at the winery, where 9% of the whole clusters are included in the small, open-top stainless steel tanks. After a 5-day cold soak, an indigenous fermentation is started. It is aged in 44 percent new French oak barrels for ten months. The pinot vintage of the decade has yielded a fragrant violet nose with sage and red berry. The plate is ultra suede with Bing cherry and savoury blood orange. The tannins are low and soft, allowing a fresh mineral finish. Impressive.Tasted: 17 July 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
