Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut 2018

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2018 marks a special year for Blue Mountain's Gold Label Brut, one of BC's most iconic sparkling wines. This year, there is no pinot gris in the blend for the first time, leaving it at a welcome 62% pinot noir and 38% chardonnay. It's also easily identifiable (on the back label, at least) what vintage you have. Truth in labelling is everything, so I'm thrilled for this move forward (hence the new listing for this previously labelled NV wine). The Mavety family acquired their gravelled, loamy sands Okanagan Falls site in 1971, overlooking Vaseux Lake. Owners Ian, Jane, Matt, and Christie have over 45 years of continuous grape production within their family. This sparkler was whole cluster pressed and fermented primarily in stainless, with a portion in barrel, before blending and 24 months on lees. It was disgorged August 2021 with 8 g/L. This is a striking instalment, serious yet entirely and enjoyably drinkable. Frizzed lemon, green apple, red apple, subtle brioche are shaped with stones and lightly scented with lemon blossom across a driving, saline-slicked palate. Lovely buzzy lingering finish. Cementing itself as BC's sparkling icon here.Tasted: 28 July 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
