Vinho Verde, Northern Portugal, PortugalCreated in 1995 with a focus on quality wines from Baião, Casa das Hortas is one of the oldest companies in the Douro region, bottling wines from both Baião and neighbouring Douro Valley. Avesso means reverse in Portuguese, referring to the grape's lower acid and higher alcohol than its VV compatriots. It was fermented cool in stainless, with some time on lees and bâtonnage. Now with some age, this is showing the grape's light honeyed notes, shellacking the steely pear, wild herbs, and buzzy granitic grip underneath—a lovely chance to taste an avesso with a bit of age.Tasted: 11 June 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
