Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileA journey back to the medicinal, herbaceous, chocolate style of the 90s but with a bit more terroir, if not finesse. The palate is lush, dense, and full of coffee and tobacco, with black cherry rushing from underneath. This is barbecue wine for those who need a big red with almost everything they eat. The fruit is coastal Maipo Valley and includes 10 percent carmenere and 5% petit verdot.Tasted: 05 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileFrom the Coastal area of Maipo Valley, near the Maipo River and rooted in granitic clays and loam, this cabernet sauvignon is aided by 10% carmenere and 5% petit verdot. After a stainless ferment, this remains on skins for an additional 10 days before 80% is moved to French oak barrels for 8 -10 months' aging. Firm and dense with ripe black cherry, herbal branch, roasted root veg on a full palate, threaded with espresso and medicinal herbs, finishing on a bitter cherry / coffee note. Tannins are smoothed and suave, though overall this remains a bit rustic at this time. Definitely best taken with grilled beef to mitigate at this stage, or wait a year or two.Tasted: 05 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:
