Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay Micro Cuvée Old Main Rd Vineyard 2020
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2020 vintage was the best in recent years, comparable to the excellent 2016 season in Okanagan Falls. Although there were forest fires in the area and across the border in Washington and Oregon, the smoke was not a significant factor during the warm July and August months leading up to harvest. The Micro Cuvée is all McLean Creek Road Vineyard fruit, and the vines are now 28 years old. It is individually tasted and selected from stand-out barrels: one new French oak puncheon; two new French oak barrels; and two one-year-old puncheons. The winemaking is hands off, and the wine unfined and coarsely filtered at bottling. The style is lightly reductive, and the nose is fragrant, feeding off ripe fruit, mineral, wet stone, toast, and tropical fruit that runs deep and long throughout. The finish has a bit of ginger and creamy vanilla notes. Impressive, as always.Tasted: 04 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay Micro Cuvée Old Main Rd Vineyard 2020
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their estate McLean Creek Road Vineyard, in OK Falls, this Micro Cuvée Chardonnay comes off a steep sandy and gravelled loams site, planted in 1996. After a long, cool ferment in stainless, this transferred to French oak (40% new) for MLF and 11 months on lees, with full MLF, sans bâtonnage. The Micro Cuvée is a barrel selection that was bottled unfined and coarsely filtered. Ripe, dense, and powerful with pineapple rind, smoked stones, toast, ripe fragrant pear filling a full, expansive palate, finishing with some ginger spicing and vanilla. This is a local, modern take on traditional California, and worth a try to partner with rich creamy dishes.Tasted: 09 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:
