Passato Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2019

Piedmont, ItalyThe Bosio family has lived in Langhe's hills since the 17th century, making wine and growing grapes for generations. The barbera comes from the calcareous clays of Asti, around 300m. Some 50% of the grapes concentrate inside the drying room over 20 days and were then mixed with the grapes from the vine in a three-week native ferment. This then aged two years in French tonneaux and Slovenian casks. The result is put together well, with ample plump black fruit lightly seasoned with florals and amply seasoned with peppery/baking spice. There's a bright, fresh acidity to counter the 16% alcohol, but the end still warms with an intense fire. Necessary to match this with rustic roasted root veg or beef dishes.Tasted: 04 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
