Montalbera Laccento Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato 2017
Piedmont, ItalyThe Morando family founded Montalbera Winery at the beginning of the 20th century in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno. Their hillside vineyards are rooted in clay and limestone. This Ruchè (pronounced 'roo-kay') with an orange glint similar to its nebbiolo neighbour uses 20% overripe grapes for added concentration. The grape's inherent florality is on full display here, with perfumed violets and iris imbuing wild blackberry, salted plum, and pink peppercorn spicing. The overripe grapes plump the full-bodied palate, providing a generous cushion to the whole, and a tip up to 15%.
