Modest Wines Steen Down So Long Chenin Blanc 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaModest Wines is a sister project to Mt. Boucherie, designed to be a tiny project to pair with the food from their on-site Honest Butcher restaurant. The creativity started flowing, however, and Modest Wines now sources fruit from a few different vineyards in the Okanagan, including their estate, to make more edgy, adventuresome wines. New to the portfolio, this chenin (used to be known as steen in South Africa) comes off an East Kelowna vineyard, planted 1997. This was cool fermented in stainless, and aged in older acacia puncheons for 3 months. The wood gives a fragrant and exotic nuttiness to the ripe fruit, mixing sweet honeysuckle, fragrant orange blossoms, jasmine, on a creamy, off-dry palate, finishing with a grapefruit twist. A more tropical and lush take on the grape than we typically see for BC.Tasted: 15 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:
