Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom 25 year old vines in East Kelowna, this is an elegant, crisp expression of chenin blanc that's led by honeyed orchard fruit along with citrus and white flowers. Compelling and complex, this shows chenin's intrinsic savoury character, with expressive fruit that's all Okanagan. It feels off dry on the palate, giving this an easy drinking appeal while also balancing out some of the astringency on the finish.Tasted: 17 April 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Modest Wines project is a Mt. Boucherie production conceived to make something different to be served on-site at the Modest Butcher restaurant. Each of the wines irreverently builds off a classic wine world style or label, in this case, the steen or chenin blanc wines of South Africa. Chenin blanc has a growing following in the Okanagan, and this release is an excellent example of why it is attracting so much attention. The fruit is from a 25-year-old-vineyard in East Kelowna. The style is uber cool and fresh, with a fragrant nose mixing exotic pineapple, citrus, and almonds. It is barely off-dry and creamy, with a bitter grapefruit squeeze in the finish. Best with a seafood or vegetable pasta dish.Tasted: 08 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaModest Wines is a sister project to Mt. Boucherie, designed to be a tiny project to pair with the food from their on-site Honest Butcher restaurant. The creativity started flowing, however, and Modest Wines now sources fruit from a few different vineyards in the Okanagan, including their estate, to make more edgy, adventuresome wines. New to the portfolio, this chenin (used to be known as steen in South Africa) comes off an East Kelowna vineyard, planted 1997. This was cool fermented in stainless, and aged in older acacia puncheons for 3 months. The wood gives a fragrant and exotic nuttiness to the ripe fruit, mixing sweet honeysuckle, fragrant orange blossoms, jasmine, on a creamy, off-dry palate, finishing with a grapefruit twist. A more tropical and lush take on the grape than we typically see for BC.Tasted: 15 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:
