Luis Seabra Indie Xisto 2019

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAfter a successful decade as winemaker at Niepoort, Luis Seabra decided to break out on his own, leaving his name on the wines of Douro. Indie Xisto blends Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Rufete, Touriga Brasileira, Donzelinho Tinto, Malvasia Preta and Touriga Femea, from a sustainably farmed, blue schist soiled single vineyard in Alijó, planted since 1950 and at 580m elevation. This was native fermented, whole cluster in lagares with 10 days of maceration before resting 18 months in 500ml French oak barrels and saw very low sulphur additions throughout. Perfumed blue fruits, sapid rockrose, thorns fill this savoury red, gripped with schistous texture, and lifted with altitude. Tannins are firm, but well balanced to match the old vines. Lovely finesse in this special wine.Tasted: 08 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
