Famille Chasselay Brouilly Les Balloquets 2019
Brouilly, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceThe Chasselay family can trace their lineage in the village of Chatillon d'Azergues, in southern Bojo’s Pierres Dorees, back to 1418. The region, the land of the golden stones, is named for the local ochre-hued limestone, traditionally quarried for buildings. Fabien Chasselay, his sister Claire, and their father Jean-Gilles have farmed their 15 acres in the Pierres Dorees organically since 2000, with the average vine age of 55 years. This comes from a 0.69 ha plot named Les Balloquets, in d’Odenas’ shallow granite soils, and vines 45 years average age. This was native fermented and macerated for 2 weeks in concrete vats before 7 months’ rest in oak barrels. Fragrant raspberry, cherry, blueberry is seasoned with fine spices and scented with perfumed violets and iris. Tannins are long and finely sticky, framing this medium wine through a pink peppercorn finish. Drinking smartly now, ideally with a light chill. #GoGamayGo.Tasted: 10 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:ON | $35.95 | 750ml | consignment |
