Domaine Rolet L'étoile Chardonnay 2018

Jura, FranceThe Rolet estate was created by Mr. Désiré Rolet in 1942, with just 4 hectares, and was taken over by his children, Eliane, Bernard, Guy and Pierre in 1958. They grew and ran the estate to be the second largest in the Jura until 2018 when they took retirement and sold to the Devillard family, well known for their Bourgogne estates. This chardonnay is grown on the hills near Lons Le Saunier, with distinguished soils of grey blue marls and star shaped fossils called pentacrine, after which this small appellation was named. L'étoile is fermented in barrique, where it ages for a year before bottling. Pouring a deeper lemon hue, this creamy chardy is sharpened with a laser beam of lemony acidity, streaming buzzy mineral, green apple, lanolin, subtle toast, and rock salts down a streamlined palate, finishing with a saline wash. This has depth, and freshness, making for a welcome drink now.Tasted: 10 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
