Château Pesquié Silica Rouge 2019

Ventoux, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceSilicon is a natural element found in sandstone, clay, and granite and is plentiful in the earth’s crust. It has been recently classified as a quasi-essential”, or beneficial element for agriculture. It plays a vital part in biodynamic treatments because of its significant benefits on crops. As a tribute, the Chaudière family has named one of its single vineyard wines, with an abundance of silicon, Château Pesquié Silica Rouge. Silica Rouge is made from grenache and cinsault planted over sandy soil mixed with limestone gravel and silica. The vines have been Demeter certified since 2015. The vinification is carried out in 600 L barrels (75%), and cement eggs (25%), using native yeasts. The wine is aged for 15 months before bottling. 2019 is a concentrated affair of fresh red and black fruits, a juicy palate, with silky black cherries, raspberries, and white pepper. Power and finesse. A serious red that will need three to five years to fully mature in the bottle. Think lamb chops, beef stews, or root vegetable terrine.Tasted: 16 March 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
