Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPurple wax seals the Rust Okanagan Falls Lost Horn Vineyard Syrah, one of four single vineyard releases in 2018, and the first from OK Falls. It is made with barely planted (2016) ungrafted clone 877 growing over clay loam soils. Post ferment, it spends ten months in 20 percent new French oak. OK Falls is pinot country and decidedly cooler than the south Okanagan, so as rich as this syrah is, it remains more peppery and savoury with underlying blackberry, black plum, and blueberry with a hit of brown spice. Fresh (at 400 metres) and a bit skinny, this wine is pretty much what you might expect from younger vines. Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis purple waxed syrah takes us to Okanagan Falls, and Rust's new plantings of ungrafted clone 877. It's juicy and expressive, with the forward fruit that’s not uncommon for young vines, showing spiced blackberry and black raspberry along with sage and a delicate touch of oak. Of the four 2019 syrahs from Rust, this is the most structured and muscular, and the one that still needs a few years in bottle to flesh out. One gets the sense the best is yet to come, not just for this wine, but for the vineyard, too. It's an exciting start for Lost Horn Vineyard all the same.Tasted: 31 January 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe smartly purple waxed Okanagan Valley Syrah is one of a quad of single-vineyard syrahs released by Rust in the 2018 vintage. This is the first time we're seeing Lost Horn Vineyard from OK Falls, a clone 877, ungrafted syrah on clay loam soils, planted in 2016 at 395m. It spent ten months in French oak, 20% new, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Big and rich, with ample sweet blackberry, black plum, and sweet baking / peppery spices that flood the palate. Tannins are ample and sticky, hugging this to a lingering peppery finish. Not shy, this is a big potent syrah for partnering with grilled beef.Tasted: 14 February 2022Tasted by: Prices:
