Lightning Rock Syrah 2020

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Summerland's Elysia vineyard, planted in 2006 on the steep sloped mix of limestone and decomposed granite, this year's Syrah was destemed and cofermented with 10% whole cluster Viognier. After 21 days on skins, this was pressed to neutral puncheons and native fermented, remaining until early May the following year when it was bottled unfined, and unfiltered. The viognier is felt from first whiff, with a beautiful perfumed wash of violets, followed by wild blueberries, wild blackberries, juicy plum and ample cracked pepper. Acidity is bright, while tannins are long and finely textured / slightly sticky / grippy, hugging this medium bodied syrah through the white pepper finish. Lovely finesse and elegance here, and a style I hope more Okanagan winemakers will adopt.Tasted: 27 February 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
