Rueda, Castilla-Leon, SpainCeleste Verdejo is a new sister label to the familiar Celeste Crianza from Ribera del Duero. This, however, comes from Rueda, and clay / gravel riverbeds on the left bank of the Duero River. This verdejo had 3 hours cold skin maceration before ferment in stainless, where it remained for 2 months. The river stones are evident in the stony, savoury underlay of this crisp white, threaded with green hedge, grapefruit, white peach, tightened with tangerine pith and finishing with a subtle yet lengthy salinity. Rueda, Castilla-Leon, SpainCeleste Verdejo is a new Torres label out of Rueda. Some north-facing parcels sit close to the river in clay gravel and rounded pebbles, characteristic of an old riverbed. The result is a cool, fresh style with intense aromas that are almost sauvignon-like. It opens with citrus and pineapple scents laced with fennel and licorice, all of which spills onto a slightly more lush palate with a pleasant, bitter green fruit finish.
