Paarl, Coastal Region, South AfricaThis Paarl red is a Rhône style blend dominated by shiraz (73%) vineyards in the warmer Paardeberg area. The grenache (23%) and viognier (4%) grapes are from Northern Paarl. Each variety is fermented separately and then blended and aged in second and third use French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months. The nose opens with rich black cherry and brambleberry that spills onto the palate. The tannins are supple, and the finished balanced but a bit sweet.
