Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyIOsonoDonatella is a very special release Brunello that celebrates the passionate, revolutionary, visionary Donatella. This small lot wine is made only in the best years (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015), and is packaged in a striking silver / gold glitter bottle, recalling medieval goldsmithing. The 2015 comes from the Ardita vineyard, planted in 2002, and was native fermented in open top concrete vats before aging in 5-7 hectolitre French oak tonneau for 2.5 years. Prior to bottling, the wine rested six months in a bare concrete egg. Pouring a lightly bricking hue, this elegant, silken red streams wild cherry, worked leather, dried florals, baked plum, all woven with scrubby dried herbs and candle wax. Tannins are firm and grippy, but fine, well integrated into the plumped 2015 vintage fruit. Acidity is lofted, and there's an alluring buzzy minerality livening the undercurrent, through to the saline finish.
