Capezzana Conti Contini Bonacossi Barco Reale di Carmignano 2017

Carmignano, Tuscany, ItalyFor 5 generations the Contini Bonacossi family has cultivated and maintained their Tenuta di Capezzana estate, 12 miles west of Florence in Toscana's Carmignano sub-zone. Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi and his family returned to Italy after living in Spain and purchased the estate from Raimondo Franchetti’s widow, Sara de Rothschild, in 1920. Of their 270 hectare estate, 80 hectares are certified organic vineyards. Barco Reale is a mix of younger (15-25 year old) vines, and a mix of Sangiovese 75%, Cabernet Sauvignon 15%, Canaiolo 5%, Cabernet Franc 5%. After a native ferment with 8 days' maceration in stainless, this aged in older untoasted 24 hl French or Slavonian oak barrels for 6-8 months. The aging is done for you: fresh and dried cherries, worked and new leather is framed by lightly toasted oak, and licked with wild mint. Tannins are fine and absorbed, leaving a light grit in their wake through the saline finish. Still some freshness here, this is a smart choice for partnering with your tomato-sauced pasta dishes now.Tasted: 17 January 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
