François Pinon Vouvray Le 2016 2016
Vouvray, Touraine, Loire, FranceFrançois, a former child psychologist, took over the Vallée de Cousse, Vouvray estate from his father in 1987, and is now joined by his son, Julien. The vineyards are dedicated to organic viticulture and minimal intervention vinification. Le 2016 is from 40 year old vines rooted in calcareous, clay, tuffeau, and limestone. The Le 2016 was Pinon's main still white bottling from the very difficult vintage, in which the estate lost 75% of its crop. It replaced the usual trio of Trois Argiles, Silex Noir, and Les Deronnières. This was native fermented in old wooden vats over 2-3 months, and naturally stopping with some RS intact. The wine was then racked and aged on its lees for 4-5 months in a mix of used oak barrels and foudres. Pouring a golden yellow hue, this opens with layers of honeysuckle, quince, ripe pear and fragrant yellow apple, all bound tightly by chenin's characteristic brace and buoyed with a gentle pad of RS. The bones are worn some with time however, with all the parts in harmony, lingering with a shimmering wave of minerality in its wake. This moelleux is alluring drinking now.Tasted: 06 December 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $44.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
