Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaTasted two years on, this sémillon is shining with some bottle age, showing a combination of lemon, green apple, and toast, framed by a deft use of lees. There's a lovely richness now, giving this texture while also balancing the ripe, crisp acidity. Fans of Hunter Valley sém will know that the grape can't be rushed. That seems to be the case for the Black Sage Bench, too. This is sourced from Diamondback Vineyard, and aged in a combination of stainless steel and French oak (20% new), which is now fully integrated. Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis sémillon was whole bunch pressed before fermenting in 54 percent stainless steel and 46 percent in neutral French oak barrels (one-fifth new). The barrel portion went through full malolactic conversion, adding a richer character to the wine to balance the crisper stainless steel portion. The wine is young and, frankly, a bit backward at this point. Look for green fruit characters mixed with fresh yellow apples and pears covered in light lees. It will put on weight over the next two years and fill out, but you can serve it now as a fresher edition with sushi rolls, vegetarian pizzas, or roasted root vegetables.Tasted: 04 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Oliver's Diamondback Vineyard, this sém was whole bunch pressed and fermented in 54% stainless with no MLF, 46% French oak (20% new), with full MLF. After some time on the lees, the parts were blended and bottled, without fining. This youthful sémillon is in an awkward state, with crab apple, green hedge, yellow apple, crunchy pear, wood spice, ale, and lees all jockeying for position.
