Gérard Bertrand La Forge 2015

Corbières, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceLa Forge is a four-hectare site at Domaine de Villemajou, in the middle of the Boutenac sub-appellation of Corbières. This is based on 100+ year old carignan vines, spiced with syrah. George Bertrand has said this is his favourite red, possibly because the Domaine de Villemajou is the historical birthplace of the Bertrand family. The majority of grapes undergo carbonic maceration, and the blend happens post-ferment, resting in new oak barrels for 1 year. The wine heads to bottle without fining or filtration, and it is held one year in bottle prior to release. Dense and intense with wild cherry, wild blackberry, sweet ripe plum, downy violets on a fleshy palate, scented with anise and herbal Mediterranean scrub. Tannins are worn soft and sticky, and the finish carries a portly sweetness. Super ripe, dense, and mouthfilling, this still requires richer lamb or beef dishes to partner.Tasted: 19 November 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
