Chateau Lanesson Haut-Médoc 2018

Haut-Médoc, Médoc, Bordeaux, FranceThis bullseye claret is not only well priced at $45, it’s one of the best this charming estate has produced. Château Lanesson’s 2018 blends 52% cabernet sauvignon with 42% merlot, fleshed out with a soupçon of spicy petit verdot. Delightful to swirl and inhale, cabernet’s cassis and grilled green pepper show immediately, followed by notes of ripe red plum, and roasted cedar. Far more substantial than the leaner 2017, this vintage’s warm summer temperatures deliver abundant black fruit density, ripe plump tannins, and admirable fresh, elevated acidity. You can taste the dusty gravels on the finish, along with a burnish of fine French oak. Lanesson’s vineyards are situated near the Saint Julien boundary. Everything is in the right place in this midweight Haut-Médoc standard bearer, and while it is drinking supremely well now, a few more years will reveal greater complexity. The lauded 2018 Bordeaux vintage offers immense choice, and for the price, there is much pleasure in this bottle of Château Lanesson.Tasted: 15 November 2021Tasted by: DJ KearneyPrices:
