Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThomas Bachelder is one of Canada's leading chardonnay and pinot noir specialists, honed through time in Bourgogne and Oregon, as well as years in the vineyards of his Niagara home base. Hanck vineyard is on the sweet spot of the Vineland Bench, on reddish magnesium and dolomitic-limestone clay soils. Though just 10 metres from Wismer-Parke, the wine is entirely different. Very earthy and green-edged, with herbal raspberry, sapid cherry, wet tea leaves, on a sleek, streamlined palate, lit with salinity. Ample tension here.Tasted: 23 July 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaJust north of Wismer-Parke, Hanck Vineyard is similarly situated on what Bachelder calls Vineland's "grand cru strip." The fruit is more overt here and with more perceived ripeness, led by wild strawberries and black raspberries accented by delicate spices. The palate is also more generous but still with the freshness and modest alcohol that characterizes all of Bachelder's pinots. It makes for a very satisfying pour, with a suave texture and silky tannins that will make it tempting to open any bottles in your cellar sooner than you probably should.Tasted: 29 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:
