Umani Ronchi Fonte Del Re Lacrima Di Morro D'Alba 2019
Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyFonte del Re is a local name referring to a site where a spring once rose, near Morro d'Alba. Lacrima di Morro is the grape, so called for the tears (lacrima in Italian) that appear when the grape is ready for picking. This ancient grape is quite rare for a red, with ample fragrant aromatics. These vineyards are in deep clay loams, 150-200m in altitude. Destemmed grapes undergo 10 days' maceration and ferment in stainless, where it remains for four months' rest. Darker in hue, with smouldering wild plum, fleshy boysenberry, ample violet and iris perfume, all seasoned with pine, wild mint, anise, and reams of cracked peppercorns. Tannins are long and moderately sticky, propping up this spellbinding red. Absolutely worth seeking out for adventuresome drinkers, and to enjoy with local lamb and wild mushrooms.Tasted: 17 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Umani Ronchi Fonte Del Re Lacrima Di Morro D'Alba 2019
Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyLacrima is an unusual grape variety. Not just for its rarity, but also because it's the rare black grape that is intensely aromatic. Imagine if you dialled syrah's aromatics up to an 11. Umani Ronchi nicely shows its charm and character. This is stunningly perfumed, combining fresh violets with a swath of cracked pepper, all backed by juicy, pure blackberry fruit. Give this a light chill, and you'll find the bottle doesn't last long thanks to the soft tannins and beguiling aromatics. Recommended.Tasted: 19 October 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Umani Ronchi Fonte Del Re Lacrima Di Morro D'Alba 2019
Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyLacrima is an ancient indigenous grape variety saved from extinction that is currently cultivated in a tiny area around Morro d'Alba in the Marche hills (near Ancona), 15 km from the Adriatic sea. The wine opens with peppery, floral, pine sap and dark plum mixed with strong savoury scents. It is gamay fresh on the palate with more spicy, plummy, floral fruit flecked with garrigue dried herbs and soft round tannins. I suggest a slight chill before serving to supercharge this wine in your glass. The eponymous DOC appellation is now 37 years old. The Lacrima moniker refers to the tear drop which weeps from the cluster when the grapes are fully ripe.Tasted: 29 October 2021Tasted by: Prices:
