Envinate Migan 2019

Tenerife, Canary Islands, SpainEnvínate, translating as "wine yourself," is the brainchild of 4 friends who came together in 2005 while studying enology at the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante. Upon graduation, they formed a winemaking consultancy, which evolved into Envínate, a project focused on exploring distinctive parcels mainly in the Atlantic-inflected regions of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands. Migan comes from two very old parcels of cordon trenzado (braided vines) Listan Negro in the Orovata Valley of Tenerife. 60% is off volcanic sands at 600m, while the remainder is off an older plot at 350m, with more clay in the soils. Each plot was fermented separately, foot-trodden, with the higher elevation entirely whole cluster, in large concrete vats. It then moved into 228L and 600L older French barrels for MLF and 11 months' ageing. It was bottled without fining or filtration. Typically Listen Negro, this is a tsunami of reduction upon opening, before the palate floods with pink peppercorn, herbal pitch, thorns, scrubby wild herbs, wild flowers, and the scratchy edginess via the profound volcanic soils. Tannins are feather light, as is the weight of this 12% red, finishing with ample salinity. Requires a chill, and decant, unless you enjoy your wines RAF.Tasted: 10 October 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
